While Brexit negotiations between the UK and the EU are still underway, there is understandable concern among businesses about the day after and the new trade realities they will be faced with. The UK left the European Union on January 31, 2020 and is currently in a transition period which expires on December 31, with or without a formal trade deal in place. The return of a hard border between the two has always been viewed as a potential consequence of a no deal, despite a former agreement to keep the border open. As part of the preparations towards the end of this transition period, the British Embassy in Athens with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited Greek businesses and representatives interested or involved in the export or import of goods to Great Britain to meet with representatives of the British Government during an online session which will be held on December 3 at 11:00-13:00 EET. The title of the workshop is “GB – EU Border Formalities: get ready for the end of the Transition Period” and will cover border formalities between the EU and Great Britain at the end of the Transition Period. This will be an opportunity to speak directly to expert British officials from HMRC (customs), DEFRA (agriculture and food), DFT (transport), BEIS (business) and other key departments on issues relating to trade with Great Britain and to find out about the latest preparations.
