The Agricultural Cooperative Union of Zagora-Pilio, now in its 103rd year, is constantly trying to improve its production of high quality apples. Case in point, the coop recently decided to extend its refrigeration facilities in Zagora, on Pelion mountain, as well as to purchase new sorting and packaging equipment. The decision was part of a €5 million investment, partly founded by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food. In addition, the company went ahead with the implementation of new energy systems, aka the installation of photovoltaic panels to produce energy, while, at the same time, reducing its factory’s carbon footprint.
