Private label: 22.8% value market share in Greece for 2019

According to estimates from the International Private Label Consult (IPLC), processing key data from the following research firms Kantar, Nielsen, IRI and LZT, the private label value market share for Greece in 2019 amounted to 22,8%. This represents the second lowest percentage among 17 European countries, right after Poland at 22.1%. In contrast, the largest market shares in terms of value regarding private label products are recorded in the United Kingdom (52,7%) and Ireland (50%), followed by the Netherlands (43%) and Switzerland (42,3%).

It is worth noting that, according to the latest edition of the PLMA Ιnternational Private Label Yearbook, the private label market share in terms of volume in Greece amounted to 31.5% in 2019. IPLC’s estimates for the development of private labels during the Covid-19 lockdown are also interesting. Namely, from February to May 2020, private label products were up by 16.8% in Spain (compared to branded products at 12%), by 13.8% in Portugal (compared to branded products at 8%), by 15% in France (compared to branded products at 6%), and by 12% in Italy (compared to branded products at 8%).
